Tottenham Boss Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Booers 'Not Real Fans'
Fulham Begin Powerfully to Beat Spurs and Increase Tension on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed later "they cannot be real Spurs supporters" by manager Thomas Frank.
Tottenham conceded two scores in the opening initial moments to fall 2-1 to their opponents, marking their 10th Premier League at home defeat of the year.
But the main topic of discussion was the visitors' second score when Vicario lost the ball well outside his area.
The goalkeeper ventured out to deal with a long ball and took the ball near the touchline.
But, rather than kicking it out of play, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear away, but slipped as the ball glanced off Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
King laid the ball off to Welsh midfielder Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the sideline recorded at thirty-six point six metres.
Moments later when the ball went to Vicario again, a number of Tottenham supporters jeered him.
Spurs were booed off at the interval, with the side 2-0 down, and again at full-time.
A particular of those jeering sessions truly irritated Frank.
"It came to my attention some of our supporters apparently jeered the situation and jeered following, which, in my opinion is completely unjustifiable," the Dane commented regarding the fans' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"Those individuals cannot be real Spurs supporters that act that way. Alright jeering following the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are supporting one another, we are with each other moving ahead."
Kenny Tete had given Fulham a fourth-minute lead before Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an improved second-half performance.
Former top-flight goalkeeper Joe Hart stated that the second score was "completely preventable".
"I certainly understand the supporters' frustration," Hart continued. "I am aware the part the keeper is performing. He is a great squad member, he's a true figure in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"He was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the winning goal."
'It's In the Game, I'm a Big Man'
Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Vicario Following the Game
Italy national team Vicario is in his third campaign with Spurs.
The 29-year-old stated after the game that he had to accept the feedback.
"That score was a mistake of mine, I accept accountability for that," he said.
"My aim was to kick the ball far and I simply struck the ball in a bad manner. It was an more difficult mountain to climb."
He stated receiving jeers "is part of the game".
"I am mature, what can I say?" he continued. "We cannot be influenced by the situation in the stands. The fans have the right to do what they think.
"It's on us to stay more calm, to focus on ourselves. The team is lacking in calmness and calmness to reverse results. Today is a bad defeat and it's hard to take."
'It Shocked Me Nobody Went Back to the Line'
Despite the keeper's mistake, it was far from an simple score for Wilson to score.
In fact it was the next most distant Premier League score of the season – after Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which interestingly too occurred on the same day.
The goalscorer said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an open net to aim for.
Ten seconds passed between Vicario exiting of his area and the midfielder striking – which was five moments following the kick.
"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the box for a long time," Wilson remarked.
"It amazed me not one of the back four went back to the goal line. When not one of them covered the goal, my eyes lit up a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie fell too, which gave me a bit of extra opportunity. After that it was solely about trying to make the right contact and place it towards goal. I had a good sense, the moment it left my boot, that it was heading in."
'During in a Bad Spell, All Seems to Work Against You'
Jeering While We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - Frank
Although the keeper's mistake dominated coverage, this was an overall poor performance for Tottenham to continue their home struggles.
This was their tenth at home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a joint team statistic matching 1994 and two thousand and three.
The side still have home fixtures against the manager's former club Brentford and champions Liverpool to play prior to the end of the year.
Just a single of those wins have come since Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou in the summer.
"If you are behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to climb," stated the boss.
"When you're in a poor run, all aspects seems to go against you too – the first was a deflected attempt, the second is a error from Vic.
"The outcome leaves us in a place where we have lost another game. Each fixture has a single story, today we were defeated in the first six minutes.
"We simply need to keep working. The later period was significantly improved and with luck an aspect we can use to learn."
Spurs have been defeated in 4 straight at home London derbies for the first time in the top division.
Furthermore they are averaging 9.5 attempts and 3.2 shots on target per match in the Premier League – their lowest averages on record in a single season (dating back to 2003-04).
Ex- Cottagers midfield player Danny Murphy stated that Frank has to endure the criticism.
"He must accept the criticism," the pundit said. "He has taken a high profile job at a huge team with massive anticipation. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with that.
"Their showings at home have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
