‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Posting on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he only now felt prepared to express about his personal sorrow.
"Sufficient time has elapsed that I can at last express my sorrow into words," shared Elwes, noting that his introductory moment with Reiner created an instant bond. "When we commenced passing more hours together I understood this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor posted archival material from the production, adding that he could not remember "any day without laughter".
"The movie is about affection, allegiance and giving. Principles that Rob valued immensely. That is part of the many reasons he was the ideal person to direct it," Elwes continued.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, saying: "Claiming that they were a great team would be an understatement. My heart still aches every time I think of you." He concluded with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Colleague and Comrade
In a separate essay, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved being with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the main character.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked seamlessly with everyone, and he comprehended the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese noted.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Sealed
In a new development, a Los Angeles superior court judge agreed to prevent the publication of the Reiners' autopsy reports, after an appeal from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A judicial mandate placed a restriction on the files to restrict the public release of "related notes, notes, reports or photos" connected to the active case.
The Medical Examiner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the consequence of murder, with a public database citing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
