A Heap of Anime News Landed During the Festive Season
The Yuletide season provide a plethora of activities far superior than checking the headlines: opening presents, feasting on delicious food, and using deep breathing to refrain from arguing with relatives. I hope you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy announcements came out over the holidays, and if you didn't see some of them, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (In 2027)
Without a doubt the biggest piece of news, the notorious troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they easily could have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a positive development. Yet, the promotional image for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, by now, they must be teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a extended pause due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series showed it still retained the fans' appreciation and enthusiasm, and now the community is thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been going on for a while, and season 6 was a further outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio famous for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two
Immediately following the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has not yet been announced.
